DAVINCI - Barilla New Pasta Shape

Abstract
The design cue for the new format was the study of the “Vite aerea" made by Leonardo Da Vinci in 1489. Given the strong values of the Barilla company, it was decided to support him with the figure of one of the greatest Italian artists.
We thought of a type of gourmet pasta where the product acquires the function of a container: two ribs that follow the sinuous course of the pasta divide the surface into three spaces that can accommodate three different types of condiments.
The project involves the creation of a new type of pasta through extrusion with a plodder. The single element has 20mm in diameter and 11mm in height.
The thickness at the ribs becomes greater giving solidity. The longitudinal subdivision of the surface allows the user or the chef to play and try combinations with various ingredients. Starting from the top and placing the sauces in the appropriate grooves, the sauce will follow its own trajectory.
During the design it was thought that the same format would be equally functional if brought to a larger size: 50mm in diameter, where the pasta itself becomes a real support with which to indulge your creativity.
The introduction of such a particular pasta line led us to think of a packaging that differs from the other Barilla lines (classic, wholemeal, organic, etc). The choice of colour is connected to the latter. The packaging was designed in a grey that would evoke the elegance typical of gourmet foods.
The launch of a gourmet pasta line inspired by the great Italian artists (Michelangelo, Donatello, Raffaello...) could be interesting in some versions.
Thank you !
